How to Pick Dog Food

You certainly want the best for your pets. Most parts of the pet’s health are determined by the food they consume. However, with so many food choices out there, how to choose which one is best to give to your pet? Although there is no “best” dog food, of course, there are some that are better than others in terms of nutrition.

Consider the age and activity level of your dog. Your pet’s strength and nutritional needs are based on several factors including growth, reproductive status, activity, and age. Pet food is designed to feed animals at certain stages of life. A growing young pup will need more calories than an older dog. Dogs that are pregnant or breastfeeding will also need more calories than a sterile dog.

In addition, make sure the dog gets all the necessary shots. Dogs need to be vaccinated against rabies and virus and bacterial infections common to dogs. Take your dog to the vet to make sure he gets vaccinated.
